Title: Feathered Help.
Post by: Ian Gardner on June 16, 2009, 07:25:14 AM
Circa 1957, on Holyrood, there was a small division of East Holyrood which abutted the Talawakelle township and was in the charge of a Conductor.
In a field abutting the township there was a small area under Guatemala grass which was to be lopped and the then acting Superintendent, Peter Uglow, gave instructions regarding thatching on the contour.
When he revisited the place not long afterward he noticed that the thatch had been laid against the contour and took the Conductor to task. The Conductor insisted that the thatch had been laid as instructed and, when asked to explain its current position the Conductor replied, 'The Chickens scratched that way!'.
